U.T.O.P.I.A. San Diego’s Third Annual Luau at the LGBT Center

San Diego, CA, April 25, 2013 – U.T.O.P.I.A. San Diego, an LGBTQIA Pacific Islander not-for-profit organization is hosting its third annual luau on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at The LGBT Community Center -3909 Centre Street, San Diego, California at 6pm. Guests will enjoy the Polynesian culture through food, entertainment, information booths, and vendors.

U.T.O.P.I.A. San Diego is excited to host the third annual luau for the first time at the San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center, Inc., (d.b.a., The Center). The Center is the nation’s second oldest and third largest LGBT community center.  U.T.O.P.I.A. San Diego is a new grass roots organization and teaming up with The Center will allow us to bring a different cultural understanding to the community.

“U.T.O.P.I.A. San Diego is an organization that is proud of our founding members for taking the leap of faith in starting this path for the future.  Seeing the many accomplishments from our sister chapters gives me hope and inspiration to provide the same commitment to our brothers and sisters in San Diego. It truly is about making paradise a reality in America’s finest city,” says Joseph Taumua, President of U.T.O.P.I.A. San Diego.

Proceeds from the all-ages event will go towards outreach efforts to the Pacific Islander Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Alliance (LGBTQIA) and greater communities by providing educational and awareness programs that include topics such as health, identity and self-awareness. Current projects include a health program with a bold mission to tackle obesity and a documentary that explores the struggle and beauty of being gay and of Pacific Islander descent.
