ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR (AD) at Barrio Logan College Institute

Reports to: Executive Director (ED)

Job Purpose
As the second highest staff position in the organization, the Associate Director will report directly to the Executive Director, and will be responsible for overseeing daily operations (administrative and business functions), as well as positioning BLCI for growth, and supporting future expansion efforts. All program staff will report up through the AD. The position requires Spanish fluency, Latino cultural competency, and a deep understanding of the population BLCI serves.

Barrio Logan College Institute is looking for a qualified individual for the crucial position of Associate Director.  Ideally we are looking for someone who is highly recommended by someone we trust in the community and is aligned with our vision and mission.

Key Responsibilities
-Oversee staff performance, and identify areas for individuals’ professional development to increase organizational effectiveness
-In the absence of the Executive Director, the AD will be called on to represent BLCI at various community, staff and board events
-As a thought leader, the AD will demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the trends and issues associated with closing the achievement gap and increasing access to higher education
-Oversee implementation of the Strategic Plan internally
-Instill a human capital development and “coaching” culture within BLCI; upgrade human resources functions including: training, development, employee relations, performance evaluation and recruiting
-Create and incorporate new components to the program in response to organizational growth
-Work closely with ED in developing and administering the annual budget
-Develop an accounting system that provides the organization with quick access to financial information and enables strategic budgeting
-Oversee all maintenance and facilities to ensure a safe, clean and functional work environment
-Analyze the current technology infrastructure and scope out the next level of information technology and financial systems to accommodate BLCI’s anticipated growth
Program Management
-Supervise and motivate Program Directors, Managers, Coordinators and Lead Tutors
-Recruit, screen, train and monitor volunteers
-Oversee orientation and training of staff and volunteers, curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and nightly program oversight
-Develop systems for regular program progress reports
-Address concerns of clients and parents in a timely fashion
Fund Raising—function reports to ED; dotted-line reporting to AD on:
-Lead meetings and tours with donors and other VIPs as required
-Development and implementation of systems for reporting, measurement and supporting local revenue generation
-Administrative aspects including proposal preparation and granting writing on occasion

Position Qualifications and Capabilities
As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of BLCI and be driven by the mission. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change.
Beyond that, we are seeking a candidate that has proven experience in a growing organization and a demonstrated ability to both lead and build a high performing team. Specific requirements include:
– Communication – Bilingual, Biliterate and Culturally Competent (English and Spanish)
-Contextual Knowledge – deep understanding of issues affecting underserved populations, particularly with regards to educational disparities
– Results—proven track record of exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation; including successful
P&L management
-Strategic Vision and Agility—ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan
-Capacity Building—ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity
-Leadership and Organization— Strong relationship management skills; exceptional capacity for managing and leading people
General Management—thorough understanding of finance, systems, and HR; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, human resources, and marketing

Terms of Employment
-12 months, full-time exempt
-Working hours: 12-8PM Monday through Friday and some mornings and weekends
-Salary commensurate with education and experience
