Content Marketing Specialist

Department: Communications

Hours: 40 hours per week, generally 8am – 5pm, some evenings and weekends required, flexible to meet program needs

Supervisor: Director of Community Relations

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Community Relations, the Content Marketing Specialist supports the development and implementation of marketing and communications programs and campaigns. The primary duty is to develop compelling copy via original writing or the editing of submitted copy for agency communications and includes managing internal initiatives to ensure that the Communications team has timely access to captivating stories about Village clients, programs and events.

Position Summary for Job Posting: We are looking for an enthusiastic Content Marketing Specialist to support our external and internal communications. You will assist in the promotion a positive public image and the dissemination of information about Father Joe’s Villages through the development of written and visual content. Phenomenal communication and copywriting skills make a strong communications specialist, and experience in nonprofit or agency communications is a plus.

Under the direction of the Director of Community Relations, and in conjunction with the communications team, partner vendors/contractors, and organization leadership, the Content Marketing Specialist will:
 Supporting the development and implementation of marketing and communications campaigns to support fundraising and organizational goals.
 Support development and implementation of the organization’s marketing and communications plans that include paid, earned and owned media.
 Develop compelling and original copy and edit submitted copy for appeals, emails, blogs, social media, newsletters, reports, brochures, Op Eds and presentations.
 Route marketing and communications materials through a timely and organized approval process.
 Work as a team to generate strategic concepts for direct mail, collateral materials, social media and other earned and owned media that are consistent with marketing campaigns.  Coordinate internal initiatives to ensure the communications team has access to timely, compelling stories about clients and organizational news.
 Write news stories for publication or broadcast about important work happening throughout the organization.  Gather and verify information regarding stories through interviews, observation and research.
 Edit or assist in editing all department materials.
 Provide well-researched talking points, information, and speeches for agency leadership’s media/event appearances.  Monitor and suggest responses to comments posted on the organization’s social media
 Work closely with contracted web hosting/designer to ensure website content is up to date, relevant and consistent with industry best practices.
 Maintain profiles on Charity Navigator, Guidestar, Better Giving and similar nonprofit evaluation sites.
 Coordinate assigned communications projects from concept to completion.
 Assist department with preparation and execution of promotional events. This may include attending events, openings, press conferences, community meetings, etc., and setting up and tearing down of on-site promotion materials.
 Maintain awareness of new media technology, techniques and strategies to integrate in communications plan.
 Attend events, take pictures when needed and draft follow-news stories.
 Use analytics to track and measure promotion effectiveness and report to internal stakeholders.
 Maintain brand consistency and messaging across communications platforms.
 Ensure deliverable deadlines are met

 Exceptional writing, editing and research skills and the ability to execute on deadline.
 Self-starter who is passionate about producing high quality content with consistent style and grammar.
 Excellent communication skills, including strong listening skills.
 Sound judgment when communicating to internal and external stakeholders.
 Ability to work effectively in a team with staff and volunteers with minimal supervision.  Thorough understanding of the organization’s vision, mission and CREED
 Highly developed interpersonal skills and highly effective in working objectively with a diverse group of people.
 Ability to make decisions in line with the organization’s philosophy, policies and procedures.

 From two to five years of experience in positions that required a high volume of writing.  Experience working with Father Joe’s Villages or in other non-profit setting a plus.

 At minimum, a bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or other relevant field
