Community Outreach Professional
Groundwork San Diego seeks a part-time community outreach coordinator to develop and deliver a public education program for businesses within the Chollas Creek watershed subject to an NPDES Industrial General Permit (IGP). The program’s goal is to assist businesses to bring properties and activitie s into compliance with the California Industrial General Permit requirements. This will have a positive impact on water quality within the Chollas Creek watershed, which has been identified as a water quality priority for San Diego County, and will assist small businesses in remaining in compliance.
Develop printed materials in English and Spanish (initially) to assist business owners to bring their business into compliance with IGP requirements.
Develop an education program consisting of one-on-one meetings and site visits to a minimum of 30 businesses to assist business ownersin achieving compliance with IGP requirements.
Train community and student volunteers to undertake one-on-one meetings and site visits.
Complete an assessmentreport describing project activities and initial results, and outlining the results as a plan for promoting the program throughout the Chollas Creek Watershed.
BA (4-year degree or equivalent)
Excellent organizational and writing skills
Adept with social media and basic computer programs (word, excel, powerpoint)
Able to work independently and self-direct projects
Able to communicate effectively and work as a team
Five years’ experience in community outreach
Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to climate action and climate justice
Fluent in Spanish
The position is part-time (20hrs per week), $18/hr. (no benefits). Schedule must be flexible and include occasional weekends.
