Labor Council Organizing Internship
Winter and Spring 2018 (January – June)
The San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO is an organization made up of 125 affiliated Local unions that represent 92,000 union member in our area. We organize in workplaces and throughout our communities for economic and social justice. We mobilize to help rebuild the middle class and fight for good jobs for all working people.
For the February until June 2018, we have the following internship available:
Organizing Intern will work closely with our Lead Organizer and Political team with:
 Helping organize and executing events.
 Attending and participating in various community and political meetings
 Assisting in conducting in large voter registration drives.
 Assisting in all aspects of campaign work (i.e. phone banking, canvassing, walks etc.)
 Attending our affiliated union meetings.
 Assisting in creating content for our organizing manual
Currently enrolled and/or major in a field such as (Social Justice, Labor Studies, Sociology, Political Science, History, English or Social Work – other majors may also apply)
 Highly organized and efficient.
 Some public speaking experience
 Strong oral communication skills
 Personable, mature and dependable
 Able to meet deadlines
 Self-starter and intuitive
 Strong written and verbal skills; computer competency.
 Self-directed to and able to handle multiple projects and responsibilities.
 Experience and comfort working with diverse communities, including but not limited to communities of color and immigrants.
 Applicants who speak a second language are strongly encouraged to apply.
 Spanish speaking preferred but not required
 Must be skilled at and enjoy working on a team
Hours: Hours are somewhat flexible, but must be willing to occasionally work early mornings, evenings and weekends for required events, and be available to work up to 20 hours a week.
Duration: The duration of this internship will be 18 weeks; beginning February 12, 2018 and ending on June 12th, 2018
Deadline: The deadline to apply is January 31, 2018. Interviews will be conducted the January 29th and a decision will be made Feb 5, 2018
Compensation: The position will be paid $15/hour.
Additional Requirements:
Must attend THE LABOR 090 Thursday evenings from 6:55-10pm in AH 414(SAN DIEGO CITY COLLEGE)
